About

I’m Mike van den Heuvel, the engineer behind JEMS Power. After spending over 19 years designing power electronics for demanding industrial, marine, and automotive applications, I started JEMS Power to bring that hands-on expertise directly to teams that need it — without the overhead of a large consultancy.

My background is rooted in getting hardware to actually work in the field. I’ve worked across the full development cycle: topology selection, magnetics design, schematic and PCB layout, simulation, and troubleshooting — through to validated, production-ready hardware.

Where I’ve built my experience

Most recently, I’ve led power module development at Siemens eMobility, guiding a team through the design of next-generation EV charger power modules — starting from unidirectional 30kW units and scaling to 50kW bidirectional systems. This role covers everything from topology studies and proof-of-concept builds to magnetic and schematic design.

For over a decade, at PR-Electronics, I led the design of power converters for the maritime and EV markets — ranging from 6kW to 30kW systems using both SiC and Si technology, including bidirectional chargers and DC/DC converters.

I started my career as an R&D Engineer at Wijdeven PS&UT, designing custom power supply solutions using flyback and forward converter topologies.

Along the way, I’ve also co-invented a patented bidirectional power converter (WO2020164895A1).

Why JEMS Power

After years of solving these problems inside larger organizations, I wanted to make that expertise available more directly — to R&D teams who need an experienced hand on a specific converter, magnetics, or topology challenge, without hiring a full-time specialist. That’s what JEMS Power is for.

When I’m not designing power electronics, you’ll usually find me tinkering with electronics projects at home, woodworking, or brewing a batch of craft beer.
